St. Jude patient, Clayton with Paddywax Giveback Candle in soft yellow ceramic candle jar with rainbows handpoured with soy wax

Inspired by St. Jude patient Clayton

9-years-old · Tennessee, USA

acute lymphoblastic leukemia b-cell hypodiploid

In the fall of 2018, Clayton was living the life of a typical first grader. He had perfect attendance at school. In fact, he was so proud of never being absent that he was hesitant to tell his parents that one day he wasn’t feeling well.

Doctors at St. Jude diagnosed Clayton with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, b-cell, hypodiploid, a rare form of the disease. Clayton persevered through his treatment, which included CAR T-cell therapy, a tactic that involves engineering a patient’s disease- fighting T-cells to home in on cancer cells and destroy them. The family appreciates all of the St. Jude staff team members whom played a part in Clayton’s recovery.

“St. Jude takes the worry away. When you walk into the hospital, you truly understand what hope really means. Being here is just so hopeful, we have a lot of hope.”

The family appreciates all of the St. Jude staff team members who played a part in Clayton’s recovery.

While in treatment, Clayton illustrated a piece of artwork that featured rainbows. For this and many reasons, this candle is inspired by him.

St. Jude patient, Yamila with Paddywax Giveback Candle in soft blue ceramic candle jar with sparkling stars handpoured with soy wax

Inspired by St. Jude patient Yamila

15-years-old · Puerto Rico

acute lymphoblastic leukemia

Yamila was just three-years-old when she was diagnosed with cancer and began treatment in Puerto Rico, where her family lives. When the cancer returned at age six, she was referred to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® in Tennessee.

There, she underwent a bone marrow transplant, with her brother serving as her donor. When Yamila relapsed a second time, her continuing treatment at St. Jude included chemotherapy and a second bone marrow transplant.

According to her mother, one of Yamila’s biggest challenges outside of treatment was learning how to do something by herself. A bicycle became the instrument that helped her become independent and say, “I can do this; this is my goal and I’m going to accomplish it.” Ten years after a long series of cancer treatments began, Yamila continues to lead a life full of joy.

While in treatment, Yamila illustrated a piece of artwork that featured sparkles. For this and many reasons, this candle is inspired by her.

St. Jude patient, Chase with Paddywax Giveback Candle in black ceramic candle jar with smiley faces handpoured with soy wax

Inspired by St. Jude patient Chase

17-years-old · Louisiana, USA

When asked about what he remembered most about his care and treatment at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Chase, like many teenagers, thought with his stomach. “He loved all of the different options at Kay Kafe,” his mom said with a smile.

In addition to the cafeteria that serves patients and their families from all across the world at no cost to them, Chase recalled how “super nice” everyone was who he and his family interacted with at St. Jude.

Chase is eager to pay such kindness forward in the years to come and he has already begun doing so by participating in a St. Jude patient study.

Today, Chase is doing great. His mom tells us he just got his first job, became an uncle, and still enjoys drawing. “Right now Chase is just living for today.”

While in treatment, Chase illustrated a piece of artwork that featured smiley faces. For this and many reasons, this candle is inspired by him.
