Better Together: Celebrating Black History Month

At Paddywax, we believe that Black History should be celebrated every day, not just during the month of February. We want to encourage an open dialogue for discourse and give you the power of educating yourself throughout the year.

This month, we would also like to highlight some of our favorite creations from Black artists, writers, podcasters, creators, and more. We hope you take some time to enjoy, celebrate, and learn from these community leaders.

Listen1619 Podcast by Nikole Hannah-Jones - Nikole is a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter covering racial injustice for The New York Times Magazine and creator of the landmark 1619 Project. The 1619 Podcast is a New York Times audio series that examines the long shadow of American slavery.

ReadAll About Love: New Visions by bell hooks - Gloria Jean Watkins, better known by her pen name bell hooks, was an American author, professor, feminist, and social activist. This particular installment of the “Love Song to the Nation” trilogy discusses aspects of modern love in today’s society. Buy bell hooks from MahoganyBooks, a local independent Black-owned bookstore based out of Washington, D.C.

Watch: 'Summer of Soul (...or, When the Revolution Could Not be Televised)' (2021) directed by Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson - This documentary showcases The 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival over the course of 6 incredible weeks of music and stands as a testament to the healing power of music during times of unrest, both past, and present.

Beyond celebrating creations, we stand for action that sparks change. Our Impressions collection is designed to express love and encouragement to each other through these actions. Our Better Together candle is about commemorating what we accomplish when we work together.

During the week of February 21 to 28, we will be donating 100% of the sales from our Impressions collection to the NAACP in honor of Black History Month. Spread the love and help us give back with Impressions! Your purchase will go directly toward the NAACP in support of:

  • Fighting back against voter suppression laws & unfair redistricting
  • Advocating for economic policies to assist Black entrepreneurs and workers
  • Fighting for reimagined policing
  • Holding corporations accountable

This Paddywax x NAACP give-back is a continuation of our campaign from past years. Currently, we have donated over $20,000 to the NAACP and are looking forward to another year of partnering with you to continue supporting this organization.

Join us in taking action to support the NAACP in honor of Black History Month by committing a monthly donation, connecting to a local chapter, or attending a training on how to advocate for social justice.
