Our Steps to Sustainability

This month at Paddywax we wanted to take the time to spotlight some of the ways that we are able to give back and be good stewards of our great planet for Earth Day. Although our efforts to protect our planet go beyond this month, we want to encourage you to take some time this month to get outside and get involved in your local community and connect with nature!

National Park Foundation Partnership

We are proud to continue to support the National Park Foundation. Our commitment will help the the National Park Foundation protect more than 85 million acres of national parks through conservation and preservation.

 Parks Car Fragrance

With the help of the National Park Foundation, this collection’s scents have been carefully curated and filled with fragrances that will transport you to the park and its natural surroundings. These scented candles also feature a crackling wood wick for a campfire ambiance. Strike a match on this uniquely textured vessel to light its fire and be transported to the great outdoors!

We have also taken the time to highlight some of our favorite parts of the National Parks from our Parks collection with our Visitor Guides and Park Quizzes to learn more about these amazing destinations!

One Tree Planted Giveback Program

One Tree Planted Paddywax Certificate

Thanks to you, we are also able to donate to One Tree Planted to plant 10,000 trees. We currently work with the Appalachia Project as many of our team members have personal ties to this land that was recently affected by wildfires. This partnership is one we hope to continue to grow as sustainability is a priority for us. We want you to know that your purchase with us makes a difference!

Appalachia is one of America's most beautiful and renowned regions, stretching from the state of New York, all the way down to Alabama and Georgia. Home to the namesake Appalachian Trail, more than 150 tree species can be found in the region, making it one of the most diverse ecological regions in North America.

Unfortunately, the resource wealth of the region also means much of the forest has been degraded by mining and timber operations. Over the years, an estimated 83% of habitat has been lost. Supporting this project will return formerly unproductive mining, logging, and agricultural land to balance. One Tree Planted’s planting partners are also implementing conservation practices to ensure the forests are maintained sustainably for many more years to come.

So why trees?

Focused on restoring degraded forests, improving economic outcomes, and protecting wildlife habitats is a well-rounded plan for encouraging biodiversity. Planting native trees like oak, yellow poplar, American chestnut, and more for the Appalachia area is critical to helping the entire ecosystem recover. This project also offers jobs for skilled and unskilled workers in the Appalachian area who have been hit particularly hard during the economic downturn of the last decade. Finally, as one of the most biologically diverse regions of North America, planting trees helps preserve the unique biodiversity of Appalachia from trees to birds to salamanders and more.

Solar Energy Initiatives

Solar Energy on Building

In 2020, we completed a solar panel installation and solar carport at our Nashville headquarters! Together this offsets over 30% of our energy usage in our space. Our environment is challenged and all must do our part to be good stewards.

Repurposing

Paddywax candles are designed with a second-life in mind. We encourage you to repurpose your vessels after burning as a way to upcycle! Checkout our most recent blog post for our favorite ways to repurpose: Back to Basics: Reusing and Repurposing Your Vessel.

Moving Forward

This month, we are donating a portion of sales of our Factory Sale to Second Harvest. Second Harvest is a Foodbank that helps provide food to people facing hunger in Middle Tennessee. Our Factory sale also allows us to sell candles for cost without having to throw any product away!

In addition, we are expanding our One Tree Planted initiatives beyond North America now that we have distribution in the UK, EU, and Australia! We will be donating a portion of international sales to plant trees in those regions.

We believe there is an obligation to invest in our people, our community, and our planet, and we couldn't do this without you. We are so grateful for your support of Paddywax!
